My first point and shoot

With summer vacation right around the corner I decided I needed to get a personal, small, easy to use video camera. It’s amazing how small and advanced these little cameras are these days. I was narrowing down between a Sony and Canon little HD camera which recorded on flash media. Before purchasing I decided to look around a little further. I then came across a class of point-and-shoot cameras that I was simply amazed by. After reading review after review and seeing photo and video examples I decided to go with this little jewel:

Canonsx200 is

It’s a point-and-shoot that also records 720p HD video. And let me just tell you how stinkin’ amazed I was at the quality of the video. I was just about ready to spend $1,200 on a video camera until I found this guy for $350. There are a few downsides like not being able to zoom and single clip record time limited to 30 mins. But for what I’ll be using it for it’s perfect. Here are a couple videos I shot yesterday just to show you what I mean. Be prepared to be amazed. The first one is from different scenarios and the second was from some weather clips I shot last night. I didn’t effect these at all, straight out of the camera.

West Texas Light Show

I went out to shoot this past Sunday night, found an open field and set up 3 HD cameras to record a time-lapse of the sunset. I got more than I bargained for. A nice thunderstorm popped up right where I had my cameras pointed and it ended up coming right at me. I stayed as long as I could before it got too windy. Here’s what I came up with:

God was bowling tonight

And the angels were taking pictures. I shot some great video and now am looking for the perfect song to go along with the video. Any suggestions?

Lubbock weather time lapse

Here’s a quick time lapse I shot yesterday. It’s about the only useable footage I managed to get yesterday.

Buffalo Springs Lake Boat Races 2008

When I lived out at the lake last year I decided to go out and shoot a little of the boat races. The starting line was right outside our front door. As you can imagine it was a tad noisy. This is not the smoothest of videos mainly because they would scare me every time the took off.

These are my dogs. I shoot them a lot. They have become used to modeling.

Shot on Sony EX1 with Letus Extreme 35mm adapter with a variety of zoom and prime lenses. Please excuse the grain, it was a learning experience.

Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon

This past weekend my wife ran the 1/2 marathon in OK City along with 19,000 other runners. I tagged along with my camera and my new toy. I shot just a little bit and threw this video together today.

FBC Lubbock MT09: Coast to Coast

Over spring break I had the opportunity to travel to Panama City Beach, FLorida then to Los Angeles, California to capture the week on video. Basically the University ministry from First Baptist Lubbock sent out a group of about 50 to Florida to give free van rides to college students who were there for the party and club scene. The group then invited them to a free pancake breakfast where they got a chance to talk to the students a little build and tell them about Jesus. The California group of 100+ worked on 6 different churches in the LA area to rebuild, construct and repair old churches all the while ministering to the church members.

Here is the highlights from the week:

Coast to Coast – Los Angeles

So I made it to LA after a long day of flying. I’ve been shooting the past 2 days here and have been sending video back to Florida for that team to see. It’s cool to see both sides of what’s going on and how both are making a huge impact. Here is the video from yesterday and look for more to come later today.

Panama City Beach Day 1

The beginning of this week I am in Panama City Beach with the University Ministry from First Baptist Church Lubbock. Basically I am here to record what happens to be able to share with the church back home and use this footage for promotional videos next year. It’s crazy down here. For some reason people seem to just think that their morales, values and laws don’t apply to them this week. We were out until 4am giving rides to students here and woke up this morning to serve pancakes to students we met on the streets and on the van rides. It’s an awesome ministry. Check out this link for more info. You can even watch the live stream of the services each night.

This is the video we sent to our group in California as well as those of you at home:

Coming to a blog near you

This weekend is a busy one but one I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. Let me first recap last weekend. I shot the biggest and most decorative wedding yet. I heard that there were over 12,000 roses used in the ceremony decorations. WOW. Anyway, I can’t wait to get started on that wedding.

Back to this weekend:

Friday – Bridal Elegance shoot. My wife was giddy when I asked her to get dressed back up in her wedding dress to shoot this. We’ve scouted locations and have a general idea of shots we want. I say we because she’s my model for the day and basically the VP of Blalock Video. I’ve never shot one before but have wanted to for a long time.

Saturday – Trash the Dress shoot. That’s right, there are brides in Lubbock who are OK with getting a little messy. I had the privilege of shooting Dane and Shari’s wedding on 8.8.08. Shari is a great sport by doing this and I think she’s looking forward to it too. This is going to be awesome, I can’t wait!

Speaking of Dane and Shari… I will be finishing editing their wedding movie by the end of the weekend and posting segments of it on the blog shortly thereafter.

To future and current brides, if you are interested in a Bridal Elegance piece or Trash the Dress let me know. I will offering a huge sale to brides who are interested. Call or email for more details!

Blalock’s wedding trailer

Here’s is what has been keeping me busy the past couple days. I hope you enjoy!

Our ceremony videos

So, maybe you didn’t get a chance to see our ceremony videos. Of course I am sick of them cause I have seen them 50 billion times. But I thought I would put them up for your enjoyment. On the second video be sure to stick around for the out-takes!

And we’re baaaaaack

So, we made it back from our honeymoon yesterday afternoon. It was a great trip! I had a beautiful girl on my arm, gorgeous scenery and not a care in the world for about a week. We took a cruise to the eastern Caribbean. I must admit it is nice to be back and have 99% of the wedding behind us. Now for the fun part… re-living each moment via video from Joe Mullins and images from Shan Renee and Braeden Rogers. Here are a few from Shan and Braeden… video to come shortly.

T-minus 10 days

I had to wipe my hands off 3 times before I could even start typing this post. In 10 days I get the marry the hottest, sweetest, and most fun girl I know. Meet Alison soon-to-be Blalock.

Stu and Ali

Thanks to Shan Renee Ingram at Captured Photography for the fabulous picture. She is amazing!
I am too busy to think about the wedding much but when I do my heart starts racing. Those of you who have gone through this before can relate I’m sure. You can also relate to the feeling of just wanting to get past the ceremony and get on with life! We are getting to that point. But I couldn’t be happier or luckier! She is an amazing woman who loves me almost as she does Jesus.

Time to get back editing… trying to finish 3 projects before I leave so I can really enjoy the honeymoon! Until then, thanks for reading. One more from Shan to hold you over:

My own worst critic

So, there’s nothing worse than working on a video project for yourself. I am getting married in 23 days and it’s coming QUICK. We wanted to have a few video elements (surprise surprise) in the ceremony and I thought it would be a good idea to edit it myself. Little did I know I would be nit-picking every little detail because it has to be PERFECT, right? I work on other people’s videos all the time. I see their baby pictures and video and have grown numb them. For some reason I thought this one would be the same. Boy, was I wrong. I’m not sure 23 days will be enough to finish this masterpiece :) I hope to have a little teaser soon. Stay tuned!

Catching on to this whole blogging thing
